Looking for a dinner that's comforting, flavorful, and easy enough for busy weeknights? This Chicken Parmesan with gnocchi features crispy chicken nuggets, tender potato gnocchi, savory marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. It's the kind of meal everyone around your table will ask for again and again.

A wooden scooping stirring cheesy gnocchi and marinara in a white skillet.

Chicken Parmesan is a favorite comfort food year-round, but it's especially satisfying during chilly weather or busy back-to-school season. As a dietitian, I appreciate recipes that offer a balanced plate without sacrificing taste or convenience. Here, the gnocchi gives you quick energy, chicken nuggets provide satisfying protein, and the marinara sauce packs in essential nutrients like vitamin C and lycopene, which support your immune health in the tastiest way possible.

  • Family-friendly: This recipe has kid-approved flavors that even the pickiest little eaters will love.

Ingredients

This easy dinner combines convenient ingredients for a hearty dish that tastes homemade.

Overhead view of labeled ingredients including gnocchi, chicken, mozzarella, marinara, and parmesan.
  • Chicken Nuggets: Frozen chicken nuggets (my fav are Just Bare nuggets) make prep quick and easy, delivering crispy texture and a boost of protein. You can also use boneless chicken breasts or rotisserie chicken!
  • Gnocchi: Soft, pillowy gnocchi perfectly absorbs the marinara sauce, creating delicious bites every time. Homemade or store-bought gnocchi works perfectly!
  • Marinara sauce: Choose your favorite jarred or homemade marinara to add classic Italian flavor along with important nutrients and antioxidants.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: Freshly shredded mozzarella cheese melts perfectly, providing the classic cheesy finish you expect and want from chicken parmesan.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Sprinkle freshly grated parmesan cheese on top to add an extra savory, nutty flavor that perfectly finishes the skillet.

Tips For the Best Chicken Parmesan Gnocchi Skillet

Follow these easy tips to make sure your dish turns out delicious every time!

  • Cook the gnocchi just until they float, removing them immediately to avoid mushiness.
  • Use a large, deep skillet to fit all ingredients without overcrowding. I especially love using my cast iron skillet for its amazing heat retention and crispy edges!
  • Garnish with fresh herbs like basil or parsley right before serving to add vibrant color and a fresh flavor boost.
  • Serve this dish alongside a fresh side salad, roasted green beans, or hot honey brussel sprouts for a well-rounded meal.

Storage

These tips will help keep your chicken parmesan gnocchi tasting great, even as leftovers.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
  • When reheating, warm gently on the stovetop over low heat or microwave in short intervals until heated through, adding a splash of extra marinara sauce if needed to prevent drying.
  • Avoid freezing this dish, as the gnocchi and chicken nuggets lose their texture after thawing.

FAQ

Can I use homemade chicken nuggets?

Yes, homemade nuggets work great. Just ensure they're fully cooked and crispy before adding them.

Why did my gnocchi turn out mushy?

Mushy gnocchi is typically due to overcooking. Remove gnocchi from boiling water immediately once they float to avoid this issue.

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Absolutely! Parmesan, provolone, or fontina cheeses all taste wonderful and melt beautifully in this recipe.
