Looking for a quick, nutritious side dish that packs a punch? These Spicy Frozen Roasted Green Beans are your answer! With a few pantry staples, you can turn frozen green beans into a crispy, spicy side dish in under 30 minutes!

Roasted green beans with chili crunch on a white plate.

As a Southern dietitian, I love a side dish that's quick, budget-friendly, and still feels fresh. Roasting frozen green beans is one of my favorite shortcuts because they come out tender-crisp with those golden roasted edges that make every bite so satisfying.

Green beans are naturally packed with fiber and antioxidants, and grabbing them frozen means you can make this any night of the week without worrying about produce going bad. We're all about realistic shortcuts around here, and this one tastes like you put way more effort into it than you actually did.

If you're building a Southern sides spread, add light squash casserole, hot honey brussel sprouts, and twice baked mashed poatoes to the menu.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Quick & easy: Made with just 5 ingredients, these frozen roasted green beans recipe comes together in a flash with minimal prep.
  • Colorful side option: It's a produce-packed side that adds fiber and color to any weeknight plate.
  • Spicy & satisfying: The addition of chili crunch gives the roasted green beans a spicy kick that really makes the side dush unique.

Ingredients

Ingredients to make frozen roasted green beans.
  • Frozen green beans: Using frozen green beans means less prep work and no blanching is required. Feel free to use your favorite variety such as French cut, haricot verts, wax beans, or string beans. Cook times may vary depending on vegetable size.
  • Olive oil: Adds healthy fats and helps the green beans crisp up in the oven.
  • Garlic and onion powder: A simple yet easy way to add delicious flavor without the hassle of chopping garlic or onions.
  • Sea salt: A pinch brings out the natural flavors of the beans.
  • Chili crunch: The star of the show! This spicy, crunchy condiment adds heat, texture, and complexity to the dish. I used Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Swap the chili crunch with red pepper flakes for a milder heat or use sriracha for a more garlicky punch.
  • If you prefer fresh green beans, just trim the ends and add a few extra minutes of roasting time.
  • Toss in sliced almonds or sesame seeds for an extra crunch and nutty flavor.
  • For a different savory flavor, omit the chili crunch and sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, lemon juice, and lemon zest over the green beans just before serving.
  • If you want extra crispy green beans, spread them out on the sheet pan in an even layer, and bake them a few minutes longer, watching closely to avoid burning.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Step 5: Remove from the oven and toss with chili crunch. If serving on a platter, you can spread the chili crisp onto for a nice presentation, then toss as serving.

Tips For Best Results

  • Flip or toss the green beans halfway through roasting to ensure even crisping on all sides.
  • Line your baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and less mess. I love these aluminum foil sheets that are all ready to go!
  • For maximum crispiness, pat the frozen green beans dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture before roasting.
  • These frozen roasted green beans pair perfectly with blackened tilapia, pecan crusted chicken tenders, or hot honey salmon for a protein-packed meal.

Storage

  • Refrigerate: Store any leftover roasted green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: For best results, reheat the green beans in the oven at 350°F for about 5-7 minutes, or in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. This will help them stay crispy rather than becoming soggy.

FAQ

How spicy is chili crunch?

It depends on the brand, but generally, chili crunch has a moderate heat level. You can adjust the amount to suit your spice tolerance.

Can I make this recipe oil-free?

Yes, you can roast the beans without oil, but they won't be as crispy. To compensate, try roasting at a slightly lower temperature for a longer time.

Can I use an air fryer for this recipe?

Yes! The air fryer works great for this recipe. Simply add to the air fryer basket and cook for around 10-12 minutes, tossing halfway through for even crisping.
