Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¾ cup apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ dry rub blend

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan and whisk until well combined.
  • Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a low simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce has slightly thickened.
  • Let cool slightly before storing in a jar or airtight container.

Notes

  • Make sure to use unsweetened applesauce so you can better control the flavor and sweetness.
  • This recipe makes about 2 cups of sauce and can easily be doubled if needed.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or freeze in small portions for up to 3 months.
  • Try it on grilled chicken, pork, roasted veggies, or as a dipping sauce for meatballs and fries.
