Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, cayenne, and garlic powder.
Add the sausage and shredded cheddar, then pour in the milk. Use your hands to mix everything until the dough comes together. It should feel dense, slightly sticky, and easy to shape.
Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls or use a small cookie scoop for even portions. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for about 15 minutes, flip each sausage ball, then bake for another 5 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. You can use a thermometer and look for an internal temperature of 160°F.
Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce while they’re fresh and hot!
Notes
Let the sausage sit out for 15 to 20 minutes before mixing so it softens and combines more easily with the cheese and flour.
If the dough feels dry or crumbly, mix in an extra tablespoon or two of milk until it holds together smoothly.
A small cookie scoop helps create evenly sized sausage balls that bake at the same rate.
Storage: Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container. Reheat in a 350°F oven or air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through. Freeze uncooked sausage balls for up to 2 months. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
