- 2 ½ lbs sweet potatoes peeled and cubed (about 4–5 medium)
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter cut into pieces
- ¼ cup milk warmed
- 2 tablespoon hot honey plus more for drizzling
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon chipotle chili powder more to taste
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt more to taste
- Optional: pinch of cayenne for extra heat
Peel and cube sweet potatoes. Cover with cold water in a large pot and salt generously. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.
Drain very well, then return potatoes to the hot pot or a mixing bowl for 1 minute to steam off excess moisture.
Mash the potatoes until mostly smooth or leave a little texture if you like.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Adjust seasonings as needed. Serve with an extra drizzle of hot honey.
- Start with ⅛ teaspoon chipotle if serving spice-sensitive guests and build from there.
- Swap the hot honey for 1 to 2 teaspoons of maple syrup if you want smoky-maple sweet heat.
- Storage: Cool completely and store airtight for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm on medium-low with a splash of milk or broth, stirring until smooth.
